Sx300 Aircraft - Designed by Edward J. Swearingen of San Antonio, Texas, the SX-300 was billed as the fastest, most expensive, and most complex kit-built aircraft at launch. It was originally supplied by Swearingen in a series of six construction sets. The powerplant was a Lycoming IO-540 using a 1.88 m (74 in) three-blade Hartzell propeller.
Swearingen is known for designing high-performance aircraft over the years, including the Merlin and Metro turboprops. He was also involved in the development of the Piper Twin Comanche and the Piper Cheyenne. Production of the kits began in 1984, with around 88 kits known to have been supplied to builders in late 1986, but production ceased in 1989. Only 48 undercarriages were completed by AirWright of Wichita, Kansas, a subcontractor. Only a few aircraft known in the United States include the N70SX, N53SX, N3RT, N330SX, N2H, N42SX, N54J, N74SX, N3RT, N41TS, N350G, and N6Y.

A prototype was imported in 2010 by Mr Lyndon Trethaway from Goola SA, registered on 29 April 2010 as VH-SXO³ (c/n SX-AUS-01) and powered by a Textron Lycoming TIO-540-AE2A engine. is equipped with Hartzell propeller.
Another example was found in Australia and New Zealand. This aircraft (N54JX - c/n 02) was used by its owner on a round-the-world flight in 2014.
